BILLUPS - Near Waitsburg, Dec. 7th, 1878, Mrs. Nancy Horsham (correct name is "Washam"--Worsham) Billups, wife of W. N.(or H) Billups.

Mrs. Billups was born in Pike county, Missouri, on April 15th, 1828. When a child, she went to the state of Iowa. In the year 1859 she, with her husband and family came to the state of Oregon. And in 1862 they came to this section of the country. The deceased was well and favorably known in this community. On the day of the funeral, a large concourse of people were present to pay their tribute of respect to the memory of the departed, and to offer their sympathy to the bereaved family. The services were conducted by the Rev. A. W. Sweeney, under whose ministry she united with the church. She died in the triumph of faith. She spoke calmly of her departure from this world. To her death was not the King of terrors, but simply the messenger who should usher her into the presence of the glorified Redeemer. Her chief anxiety was with reference to her children, whose religious instruction, she said, had been by her neglected. Otherwise she was perfectly resigned to the will of Providence. The text from which the sermon was preached was very appropriate: "There remaineth, therefore, a rest to the people of God." She is now a partaker of that heavenly rest. She has gone to join the number of redeemed ones around the throne of God; to that land where there is no sorrow or sickness or pain, but where all is joy and peace and love - of which it may be said more truly than of the grave. "where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest,"

A husband and seven children, four of which are at home, mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. They are conforted with the assurance that what is their loss is her eternal gain.

Story copied from newspaper obituary, likely from the Waitsburg Times.
