19th century architect. Trained in the École des Beaux-Arts of Paris. Winner of the Prix de Rome for architecture in 1833. Given the title "Architecte de la ville de Paris" in 1849. He is most widely known for his role as the chief architect of the central Parisian market project, Les Halles, whose glass and iron facade was an iconic feature of the city of lights for over a century before it's demolishment in the 1970s.
