The son of MATHIAS & ELIZABETH (SEELEY) SAINT JOHN, he married RACHEL BOUTON about 1686.
On December 12, 1687, "Matthias Sension drew Lot #5 in the section of land below the path leading to the meadow field. The value of his estate in 1671 was 145£ and in 1690 it was 195£.
The inhabitants of Norwalk were given permission in a town meeting to build a shelter for their horses for the Sabbath and public functions beside the lott of Matthias Sension in the common as long as it did not obstruct his barn, yard or shop. In March of 1708 at a town meeting it was voted that Samuel Keeler, Matthias Saint John and Samuel Smith to be a committee to view the lands that would be suitable for a division of plow land. In the division of home lots in 1708, Matthias Saint John drew #6.

In May of 1708, the inhabitants of the town of Norwalk petitioned the General Assembly to purchase a tract of land from the Indians bounded on the south by Norwalk. The purchase took place for the sum of 100£ on September 30, 1709 between Ctoonah, Sachem of the Ramapoo Indians and the inhabitants of Norwalk including John Whitney Sr., Matthias Saint John, Samuel St. John, John Bouton, Joseph Bouton, and Matthew Saint John.
