James (Jens) Peter Olsen was born in Kalvehave, Praesto, Denmark. His parents were Rasmus and Ingeborg Hansen, or Sorensen Olsen. They left their home in Denmark on December 26, 1853 to come to Utah. Jens was 12 years old when he made the trek across the plains. On October 5, 1854 they arrived at the Salt Lake Valley. Jens spent his teenage years in Ephraim, Utah. He had four wives.In 1882 he went on a mission to Denmark. While there he became very ill and had to return home. He died at the age of 42.
