Born: John Charles Peterson (Johan Carl Pedersen), in Sannidal, Telemark, Norway. Johan immigrated to America with his mother and father. They all settled in Chicago, Illinois. The family name is believed to have evolved from (possibly) "Pederssohn" to become "Pederson/Pedersen", then "Peterson". He married Bertha Gielow (of German origin) in Chicago.

He is listed on the 1910 Federal Census as employed at an Organ & Piano Factory in Chicago. "John Charles" operated a furniture store at: 903 North Licoln Avenue, Chicago, Illinois (the pre-Chicago-Fire street numbering system).

Based upon Death Certificate (Chicago) Regist. Dist 6303, Record 9546, his death date is listed as 10-Aug-1918, but says he lived 72 years, 4 mo.'s 10days, which would calculate to birth date of 31-Mar-1846 (not 26-March-1846). It should probably read: 15 days.

CHILDREN:
i. Alice May (1869-1946) married Friedrich Ferdinand Kuhmann on 2-Mar-1908).
ii. Jennie Johanna Wilamina Josphine (1879-1964) married [1] Harry Joseph Seiler, [2] Theodore Herman Quast.
iii. Hattie (1873-????) married Justin Lincoln.
iv. George William (1875-????) married Mary Zander (dates unknown).

John Charles Peterson died in Chicago, and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. The burial took place on 13-Aug-1918.

The family name is entered as both "Peterson" and "Pederson" on the Graceland Cemetery records. Whereas, Norwegian emmigration records (from 1853, in Norway) list his father as "Knut Peder Knutsen Smedsbukt", hence "Knut Pedersen".

Thus, since leaving Norway, the name evolved from: Pedersen; to Pederson; to Peterson (as it is used today, circa 2010 by all of his descendants in the USA).
