Dr. Robert Hopkins, 78, beloved husband, father, brother, son and friend, died May 7, 2004, at Hospice House, Hutchison.
He was born Jan. 5, 1926, at St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Mildred Garrett and Robert Thomas Hopkins. He attended Pooles Prepatory School, Washington, D.C., graduated from Christian Brothers High School, St. Joseph, Mo., in 1944, attended the University of Kansas and graduated from the University of Missouri Dental School in 1952. A longtime resident of Hutchison, he was one of the founding members of the Hutchison Dental Center, practising Dentistry in Hutchison for 49 years.
He belonged to Church of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. He loved history, travel, his family and his friends.
He served in the U.S. NAVY during World War II.
On August 7, 1948 he married Carolyn Bauer at St. Joseph's Cathedral, St. Joseph, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Robert and wife Glenda, Salina, David, Baton Rouge, La.,and Andrew, Santa Fe, N.M.; three daughters, Mary Moore and husband Tom, Fairfax County, VA., Ann O'Halloran and husband Tomas, Santa Fe, NM., and Kathleen Whalen and husband Troy, Chicago; a sister, Betty Carmichael, Napa, California, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
