Early education with nuns of the Sacred Heart in St. Joseph, then boarding school. Many trips to the Orient with parents. Went to St. Mary's Kansas Grade school. Then to Central High School St Joseph, Missouri. Prep School at St. Benedict's, Atchison, Kansas. University of Notre Dame.
World War I broke out, and Robert joined up. He was sent to France with the American Expeditionary Force where he became a mess sergeant. After the war, He went to Creighton College, Omaha, Nebraska. Joined J.R. Hopkins Importers (St. Joseph) as Secretary Treasurer. Member of St. Joseph's Cathedral. Member of St. Joseph Country Club.
He died at home at 2692 Fairleigh Place, St. Joseph, Missouri of Myocardial Infarction, after a 6 month illness. "He was a warm, loving & happy husband & father." -Betty Ann Hopkins Carmichael (2004).
