Mildred Garrett & Robert Hopkins met at Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri 1913. Mid graduated in 1914 and went on to Business school and to work at Tootle-Campbell. First in the office and then modeled for their catalogue. She was "Color Girl" at the Annapolis graduation of Richard Cruzon.
Mid & Bob were wed on September 14, 1921, by father O'Neil in the rectory of the St. Joseph Cathedral as Mid was a Baptist. Mid joined the Roman Catholic faith soon after Betty Ann was born in 1922.
The family lived at 26th & Francis in St. Joseph, Missouri. Then in the Century Apartments while they built a home at 2692 Fairleigh Place Terrace. There a son, James Robert "Bob" was born: 5 January, 1926.
Robert Thomas Hopkins had lived there till his death on, 6 May 1940.
Mid remarried in 1958 to Charles A. Semrad, Vice President of St. Joseph Power and Light. They lived at 1814 Lovers Lane until his retirement. Then Mid and Charles moved to 3202 Coronado Lane where Charles passed away on 22 Sep 1965. She then moved into 202 Century Apartments. In 1985 she moved to Hutchinson Kansas to be close to her son, James Robert Hopkins D.D.S.

Mildred Hopkins Semrad, age 91, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday afternoon, October 19,1990, at Hutchinson Kansas, hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in St. Joseph, Mrs. Semrad had resided most of her life there. For the last five years, she had resided in Hutchinson.
She was employed for many years at Townsend & Wall Department Store as a buyer in the better dress department.
Mrs. Semrad was a former member of the Cathedral Church of St. Joseph, becoming a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church after moving to Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert T. Hopkins, on May 6, 1940, and by her second husband, Charles A. Semrad, on September 22, 1965. Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert Hopkins, D.D.S., of Hutchinson. A daughter, Betty H. Carmichael, of Fulton, Missouri; a step-daughter, Mary Lee Quinn, of St. Joseph; a step son, Charles (Chuck) Semrad, ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five nieces and one nephew.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Reverend Tom Ludwig on Monday, October 23, 1990, at the Horigan Chapel in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Interment followed immediately. Pallbearers, all members of Knights of Columbus Council No. 571, were Alfred Yackie, James Conant, Cletus Barsch, Frank Schagg, Ray Drag and Louis Dilorio.
Services were under the direction of Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home of St. Joseph.
