Mrs. Helen Hanske passed away at the hospital in Plymouth, where she had been brought a week before to undergo a surgical operation for the removal of an internal tumor, which upon examination could not be performed.
The deceased, nee Helen Griebenow, was born in Kiel, Sept. 30, 1869. She was married to Emil Hanske in 1891 and the couple resided on upper Forth Street for many years, Mr. Hanske following the painter's trade. About 13 years ago they disposed of their property and purchased the Fremont house, which Mrs. Hanske successfully conducted since her husband's death in November, 1918, up to the present time. The death of Mrs. Hanske had caused a feeling of sorrow in this community where she was well known and had spent her entire life.
She is survived by one son, Carl, who is instructor in the high school in Indianapolis, and one daughter, Melitta, Mrs. E. J. Arps of Chilton; also three brothers, Fred of California, William of Shefley, Wis., and Oscar of Owen, Wis., five sisters, Mrs. J. M. Duecker, Kiel, Mrs. Mathilda Heins of Milwaukee, Mrs. G. A. Duecker of Kiel, Mrs. H. L. Kaemmer of Kiel, and her mother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Griebenow of Kiel.
The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the home, Rev. W. Rech officiating. Interment in the Kiel Cemetery. The Kiel Frauenverein, the Rebekahs, and the Ref. Church Frauenverein, of which organizations the deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body.
