Jakob was the son of Johannes Buehler and Anna Maria Gauss. He married Shatherina (Maria Catherina) Sautter on May 21, 1835 in Reusten, Herrenberg, Württemberg, Germany. They immigrated in 1855 to Indiana. They were the parents of John Jacob, Johannes (1838-1869), Maria Catherina (1839-1878), George John, and Sebastian.

The Chronicle - Thursday , March 15th, 1894 - Jacob Buehler, Sr. died at his home in this township on Wednesday evening of last week, in the 85th year of his age. He had been in failing health for some
time, and his death was hastened by a fall.
He was born in Wirtemberg, and came to America about 10 years ago, settling in Indiana. In 1875 he came to this township, and resided here until his death. He was an upright man and a good citizen.
Two sons, Jacob and Sebastian, survive him. He had two other sons, John and J. George, and one daughter, Mrs. A. Dannenberg , all of whom are dead. Funeral services were held in the German Methodist church last Friday, and the remains were buried in the cemetery near the church .
