Sam was baptized at the Methodist Church in Ellinwood, KS on 11-26-1888.

Samuel G. Ahrens was born October 13, 1888 on a farm near Ellinwood where he lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ahrens. On March 18, 1914 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Christians and continued to live on the same farm. The couple was blest with six children, Robert, Virginia, Morris, Lavern, Irene and Wayne, all at home, and one son who preceded him in death in 1924 at the age of nine months.
Mr. Ahrens was engaged in farming and remained on the farm after his father retired and moved to Ellinwood. he was a faithful and loyal member of the Methodist church having been baptized and confirmed in the church early in his life. He was a faithful member and won the highest esteem of the church. He served as trustee of the church several years.
Mr. Ahrens died at St. Rose hospital at Great Bend Saturday morning, June 4th at 3 o'clock at the age of 49 years, seven months and 22 days. The body lay in state at the Weber and Cook mortuary and funeral services were held there Monday afternoon, June 6th, at 1:30 o'clock and at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock with Rev. S.B. Handley, assisted by Rev. A.C. Brown of the Methodist church at Great Bend, in charge. Interment was made in the Ellinwood cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his bereaved wife and children, Robert, Virginia, Morris, Lavern, Irene and Wayne, his aged mother, Mrs. Bertha Ahrens, two brothers, Ed, at home with his mother and Henry of California, and four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hofmeister of Claflin, Mrs. Emma Fenn of Cunningham, Mrs. Amelia Schridde of Great Bend and Mrs. Clara Rugan of Elliwood, other relatives and ha host of friends.
He was held in highest esteem among his associates and possessed a wide circle of friends. He was a good husband and father, and his bereaved wife, children and brothers and sisters and many other relatives have the deep sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow, and the prayers of all their Christian friends.---from Ellinwood (KS) News
