Clara was married in about 1874 to William Phillips, son of Ruben Phillips and Juliann Boswell of Tennessee. By 1880, Clara and William were living in San Simeon, San Luis Obispo County, California.
There is more than this one connection between the Allen and Phillips families. The twin brother of William Phillips was Moses E. Phillips. Moses first married the sister of Clara Allen, who was Lillie V. Allen. Moses and Lillie had 4 children together before Lillie died at the young age of 25 years, and was buried in Cambria Cemetery. Lillie left behind 4 very small children. Soon after his wife's death, Moses was again married, this time to a younger sister of Lillie and of Clara, who was Flora C. Allen and together Flora and Moses raised a large family. Moses is buried next to his first wife Lillie V. Phillips in Cambria Cemetery. So twin Phillips brothers married 3 of the Allen sisters.
Clara and William Phillips lived all their adult lives in the San Simeon area of San Luis Obispo County, and were the parents of 13 children, several of whom are also buried in Cambria Cemetery. Most poignant are the deaths in near succession of 3 of the young children of Clara and William, Charles, Daisy and Lily, all 3 having died in 1884, 2 in July and one in September of that year. These children share a triple grave marker which lists their death dates and ages, in Cambria Cemetery.
The father of Clara, Thomas H. Allen is also buried in Cambria Cemetery, listed on his stone as T. H. Allen.
