Active in Volunteer Work

MARSHALL DANDRIDGE AIKEN

Marshall Dandridge Aiken, 70, a retired civilian employe of the Army Materiel Command who was active in volunteer work, died of a pulmonary disease Sunday at Montgomery General Hospital. He lived in Silver Spring.

Mr. Aiken worked on electrical engineering projects with the materiel command for 21 years before retiring in 1972.

He had done volunteer work with "Help of Silver Spring", an organization that helps disabled and elderly persons, since the early 1970s. He had been that organization's transportation director.

Mr. Aiken was a native of North Carolina and attended Duke University. He moved here about 1930.

He was a member of Foundry Methodist Church in Washington. His hobbies included photography and wildlife.

Survivors include his wife, the former Julia Blumenauer of Silver Spring; two sons, Gary S., of Reston, and Thomas D., of Albuquerque, N.M., and three brothers, a sister, and four grandchildren.

On Sunday, November 29, 1981 of Montgomery General Hospital, Marshall D. Aiken, beloved husband of Julia Blumenauer Aiken, father of Gary S. and Thomas D. Aiken, brother of Jesse E., William H. and Thomas W. Aiken and Mary A. Garber. Also survived by four grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Foundry United Methodist Church, 1500 16th st. nw., on Sunday, December 6, at 2 p.m. Friends may visit with the family at the conclusion of services in the church parlor. Interment private. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a contribution to Foundry United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Hines/Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire ave., Silver Spring, Md.
