Born Jan. 13, 1941 in Saldee, Ky., he was the son of Monroe and Lottie Belle (Strong) Brewer. He was born and raised in Kentucky and has been a Westport resident for the past 41 years.
He graduated from Breathitt County High School in 1959. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1997 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Westport Baptist Church and a former Commander of the Westport American Legion Post.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany.
He enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes and was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan.
He married Judy L. Cope in Lick Branch, Ky. on Sept. 5, 1964 and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Pam (Jeff) Smiley, Greensburg; three sisters, Thelma Cope, Booneville, Ky., Fairlean Arrowood, Seymour, Fanny Ervine, New Port, Ky.; two brothers, James Brewer, Westport and Billy Brewer, Westport; two granddaughters, Natalie Smiley, Greensburg and Paje Smiley, Greensburg; one grandson, Will Smiley, Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Lindsey, Virgil, Hubert and Verdie Brewer.
A visitiation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services will take place beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5 at the funeral home with the Rev. David A. Scaggs offciating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery
