Edwin Johnson, 94, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at the home of his daughter in Troy, where he spent the last 3 1/2 years.
A memorial service will be held at the College Place (Wash.) Village Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he was a member for 40 years. Pastor Dennis Nickel of Moscow will be officiating.
He was born Sept. 25, 1911, at the family home in Gerber Township , Woodworth, N.D., to John James and Anna Voth Johnson. He attended grade school locally but attended Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, N.D., in 1934-35. He left the family farm in the fall of 1936 and went to Oregon, where he lived with his married brother, Harold.
On June 1, 1941, he married Ella Marie Remboldt in College Place. They established their first home near Salem, Ore., but raised their four children on a farm in the Silverton Hills, returning to live in College Place in 1965.
He was known for his beautiful prayers, harmonica playing and sharing of garden vegetables. For a number of years he sang in a German chorus.
Favorite saying: "I pass this way only once, do all the good I can, don't delay for I shall never pass here again."
He is survived by his four children; two sisters; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella; his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
