Alvin B Sparks was born Sept 17, 1841 near Carlisle, Nicholas county, Kentucky. At an early age he moved with his father to Indiana, settling near New Ross, where he has since resided. At the age of twenty-one he was converted at the Valley School House and united with the Christian church at its organization and was a faithful worker until his death. He was united in marriage Sept 7, 1865, to Lucy A Bowen, who still survives him. To this union eight children were born, William I, who resides in Iowa; George M, Mrs Rose Bowman, Mrs Myrtle Whiteman and Jesse B who reside in Boone county; Charles R and Mrs Ethel Dice who reside in this county, and Nettie G, who died in infancy.
AS a man he was universally loved and respected by all who knew him. As a husband and father he was kind and considerate, but his church work was the greatest delight, never losing an opportunity to attend. He was a faithful and conscientious Christian. During the last few years of his life he suffered much, but he bore it patiently, never complaining, only longing for the time when he could be at rest.
