CUDDEBACKVILLE - Jonathan Kwitny of Cuddebackville, head of the Gannett New Jersey Bureau in Trenton, N.J., and long-time resident of the area, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, in Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York City. He was 57.

He was born March 23, 1941 in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Julia Goldberger Kwitny and Dr. Isadore Kwitny.

A distinguished newsman, Kwitny won the George Polk Award. For 17 years, he was the front page features writer for The Wall Street Journal, and for several years had his own series on PBS-TV, called "The Kwitny Report."

Survivors include his wife, Wendy Wood Kwitny, at home; his mother Julia Goldberger Kwitny of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, John Wood Kwitny and Peter Benton Kwitny, at home; two daughters, Susanna Kwitny of Stamford, Conn., and Carolyn Romasz of Ballston Spa; and one grandson, Zachary Romasz of Ballston Spa.

Burial took place in Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville.
