Mrs. Bretz was born on March 20, 1921, to John and Margaret (Stieb) Schneider in Sterling.
Elizabeth attended St. Anthony School. On January 16, 1946, she married John Bretz at St. Anthony Catholic Church.Elizabeth worked at the Sioux Ordinance Depot in Sidney, Neb., for eight years.
She then went to work at St.Anthony School in the cafeteria for 20 years, and then to Northeastern Junior College Cafeteria for 10 years. Elizabeth retired in 1985.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Elizabeth loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Her favorite pastimes were having coffee at McDonald's, and bargain shop ping.
Mrs. Bretz is survived by her son, Kenneth Bretz and wife Carole of Sterling; daughters, Judy Brekel and husband Marvin of Fleming, and Connie Hessler and husband Thomas of Sterling; seven grandchil then, Kevin, Karynn and Kyle Bretz, Jeff and Chad Brekel, and Brad and Nicki Hessler; and three great-grandchildren, Justice Saenz, Auston Hoskins and Nathan Brekel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bretz, on Dec. 22, 1994.
