Earl Scovell


Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Earl W. Scovell of Palo Alto, a retired Army captain, who died Sunday in the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Palo Alto. He was 74.


Mr. Scovell retired from the Army in 1951 after more than 20 years reserve and active service. He entered the Army in 1910 and had seen World War I and II duty. Between wars he was a real estate salesman.


Mr. Scovell had lived at 2388 Bryant St. since he moved to Palo Alto 18 years ago. He was employed as a barber for several years during the 1950s in shops in Redwood City and San Carlos.


Mr. Scovell was a native of Prescott, Iowa. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 375, Palo Alto.


He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth H. Scovell; three daughters, Mrs. Audrey Scarboneau, Mrs. Jean Carroll and Mrs. Edna Crandell, all of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Charles Baker of Detroit, Mich.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


A memorial services will be conducted at 8 o'clock tonight by the American Legion Post 375 at the Bishop Jordon Funeral Chapel, 774 San Antonio Road, Palo Alto, with interment in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.


The family prefers memorials be contributions to St. Mark's Memorial Fund.
