"Dele Elder Dies suddenly of Apoplexy Monday"
Last Monday evening our community was again shocked by the sudden death of Dele Elder, a well known and influential farmer of Fairmount township. Mr. Elder was in out village Monday forenoon and receiving the news of his brother-in-law, Edwin Curfman of near Murraysville, Illinois returned home and arranged to depart for Murraysville on the evening train.
He left his home about 4 o'clock to come to our village accompanied by his wife and son to join friends who were going with him. When nearing the farm of Alex Ewing he was suddenly taken sick. The son called at Mr. Ewing's. got his father out of the conveyance and into the house as quickly as possible and came for a doctor at once. When the physician arrived, he was beyond medical assistance and died within a half hour.
Mr. Elder always took a great interest in the welfare of his township and county and has held various township offices with credit. He will be greatly missed by his neighborhood and township.
joined Aug 11 1862 at Perry Illinois...the enrolling officer was Lt. Parks, 3 year enlistment, mustered in Co.F.99th regiment of Illinois Volunteers on August 23 1862 at Florence, Illinois by Captain Rathborn and subsequently transferred to Co. K. of the same regiment from which he was discharged Jan 8 1863. His record shows he was a private, 5ft 9 with dark hair and blue eyes, a fair complexion.
