Mrs. Mildred Helmers, 81, formerly of Girvin, Texas, died Monday at her
daughter’s residence in Colorado City. Her body was cremated and a
graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sherwood Cemetery
(22 miles west of San Angelo) with Dr. Ted Spear officiating. Arrangements
will be under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City.

Mrs. Helmers was born July 15, 1919 in Belcher, Louisiana. She married
Arno Adolf Helmers on January 30, 1935 in Mertzon, Texas. He preceded
her in death March 13, 1983. She was a retired postmaster having served
32 years with the US Postal Service. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jan Lemons and husband Bobby of Colorado
City and Arna McCorkle and husband Glenn of Ft. Stockton; two sons, Stanley
Helmers and wife Nelda of Monahans and John Helmers of San Angelo; a sister,
Helen Blankenship and husband Smokey of Beeville, four sisters-in-law, Hope
Carlson of Waco, Dorothy Hoey and Irene Willis, both of Grand Prairie and
Selma Helmers, a brother-in-law, Alfred Helmers of Girvin, nine grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.
Please, the family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to your
favorite charity, Christmas in April program, or the Multi-Purpose Building at
the Prison.
