He was born to Max and Dora Hahn Maurer on April 5, 1922, in San Antonio, Texas. On Sept. 10, 1949, he married Dorothy Haun, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and was ranked as a Tech Sergeant when discharged. He served in various countries, including France, Germany and Austria. After his military service, he drove a truck for ETMF for 37 years. After retiring, he did yard work for various people, enjoying the outside life.
He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years, as well as two brothers, Henry Maurer of George West, Texas, and Erwin Maurer of Fredericksburg, Texas; one brother-in-law, Arthur Haun and wife, Cecelia, of Fredericksburg. He also is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise Maurer Kunz and Alma Maurer Sweatman; and a brother, Edward Maurer.
The family received friends on Sunday, April 12, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. by Deacon Charles Dominguez.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, with Pastor Don Rauhutt officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Texas.
