As evidenced by several records, Wendella was born in Nov of 1893. Later in life, she began lying about her age (believed) due to the fact that she had a much younger husband. She was first married to Charles Lucier, but they had no children. They separated during the Great Depression, and in 1930 she was living without him in the Security Benefit Association in Kansas, working as a telephone operator. In 1938, she married Linwood Hamlin who was much younger than her.
