Murphy was the third of eight children born to Mallory 'Loy' and Rachel (Marley) Allred. He married Cinderilla 'Lucinda' Foust in 1882 and they had three children: Ernest Sylvester, Flossie Jettie and Lacy Claude.

Murphy Allred Dies At Home
Of His Daughter in Ramseur

Ramseur, Oct. 15 - Murphy Allred, 68, of near Grey's Chapel, died this morning at 11 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. B. Criscoe, at Ramseur. Mr. Allred had been in declining health for more than a year and came to Ramseur about two weeks ago to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Criscoe.
He is survived by his wife, who before their marriage was Miss Cinderella Foust; one daughter, Mrs. E. B. Criscoe, Ramseur; two sons, E. S. Allred, Franklinville, and L. C. Allred, Mebane; three brothers, Peter Allred, Franklinville; Norman Allred, Asheboro, and John Allred, Rockingham.
Mr. Allred was a member of Grey's Chapel Methodist Protestant church for about 45 years, from which place funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. W. A. Elam, of Ramseur, in charge, assisted by Rev. J. W. Hoyle Jr., Ramseur. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
