Alice Victoria Hughes Kivett, age 99, died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro, NC. Mrs. Kivett had been a housewife. She was the wife of the late Sulon Benson Kivett to whom she was married for 72 years.

Mrs. Kivett was born August 15, 1908, in Davidson County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Tom Edward Hughes and Frankie (Loftin) Hughes. Mrs. Kivett lived the majority of her life in Asheboro. She is survived by son, Odell Benson Kivett and wife, Patty York Baldwin-Kivett, of Asheboro and Sanford, and Allen Edward Kivett and wife, Vira Rodgers Kivett, of Greensboro. Grandchildren include: Victoria (Vickie) Durham and husband, Mike, of Asheboro and Martitia (Marty) Richardson and husband, Keith, of Greensboro. Great Grandsons include Michael Durham (Jennifer) of Randleman and Zackery Benson Durham (Jen) of Apex. She is also survived by one brother, Tommy Hughes (Janet) of Asheboro, three step-great grandchildren, one step-great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kivett was preceded in death by a son, Merideth Hughes Kivett, a daughter-in-law, Ann Moffitt Kivett; two grandsons, Odell Benson Kivett, Jr. (Benny) and Allen Wyke Kivett; and seven brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Kivett was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Asheboro. She had been a long time volunteer with the American Red Cross and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was known for both her inner and outer beauty and was an outstanding example of aging with grace.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff of Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home and to Mrs. Ruth Staley of Seagrove, NC for their loving care over the past few years.

Visitation for Mrs. Kivett will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Holder and Rev. George Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
