Lucy Newsome was the daughter of Hartwell Barham Newsom (1801-c1870/1880) and Elizabeth Gray (1804-1861), who married c1829 at Surry, Surry County, Virginia.

Lucy married Elijah Doub (1809-1885) on 15 Oct 1841 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Lucy and Elijah were the parents of nine known children, namely:

1. Elizabeth Jane Doub Long (1842-1932)
2. Henry Hart Doub (1845-1865)
2. Mary Frances Doub Speas (1847-1930)
3. William Wesley Doub (1850-1935)
4. Margaret N Doub Holder (1852-1923)
5. David Edwin Doub (1855-1933)
6. Martha Ann Doub Speas (1859-1935)
7. Elijah Newton Doub (1861-1902)
8. Wiley Asbury Doub (1867-1945)
