Gracie Jenkins was the daughter of Jesse Aaron Westmoreland and Laura Mae Cagle. Gracie helped her mother raise three brothers and four sisters. Gracie was a babysitter and housekeeper for the Dr. Brogden family after school each day. She married J.D. Jenkins 12 Feb. 1931 in Comanche, Texas. Their marriage license is dated 13 Feb. 1931. Gracie told the story of how the couple hitched a ride from Gorman to Comanche. The judge noticed the 13th Feb. date. The gentleman told him this was the only day they had a ride to the courthouse so the judge went ahead with the ceremony. Gracie always found work to help J.D. raise their four children: washing, ironing and sewing for the public, telephone operator, cooking in cafes and cooking for the Rising Star Nursing Home. At the age of ninety-five, Gracie passed away at the Rising Star Nursing Home.
