North Wilkesboro, Sept 12 -- Grant G. Elledge, 63, former sheriff of Wilkes County, died at 11 o'clock this morning in a Statesville hospital. He had been in declining health for some time.
Mr. Elledge for many years was a leader in the Republican party in Wilkes County. In 1922 he was elected sheriff and served for three terms, the last one ending in 1928. Prior to his terms as sheriff, he served for 12 years as county surveyor.
He was a member of a family long prominent in Wilkes County, being a son of the late Alfred and Elizabeth Rhoades Elledge.
He was married to Miss Gertie Jennings, who survives with the following children: Boyd M., Alfred, Claude and Miss Nannie Elledge, and Mrs. C. B. Hayes, all of North Wilkesboro; Mrs. Carl Jackson of Fort Bragg; Mrs. Dave Miller of Hickory.
Also surviving are two brothers and one sister: T.C. and L.O. Elledge of North Wilkesboro, and Mrs. Bill Elledge of New Castle.
Funeral service will be held at Bethel Church, Sunday at one o'clock.
