Obit, New Bethlehem Vindicator, February 12, 1904: Thomas Hepler, a retired citizen of Hawthorn, died on Tuesday, at the age of about 76 years. His illness was of short duration. He has resided at Hawthorn for about 40 years, the last twenty of which he has spent as a retired citizen. He was a member of the 78th regiment in the civil war and served under Capt. Brinker. He was a brother of Mrs. James M'Williams and Mrs. Sarah Sloan. He was never married and lived of late, where he died, at the home of Mrs. Sloan. Funeral was held on Thursday afternoon.
