He practiced law with Zel Rice for thirty years. Steve also served as Sparta City Attorney, Village Attorney for the Village of Cashton, and Monroe County Court Commissioner. In 1995 he was elected Judge for Branch I Circuit Court in Monroe County and retired August 1, 2007.
Steve tenaciously fought political correctness and its oppression of freedom of speech and thought. Not surprised by his demise, he realized that life is a blessing, but we all have to go sometime.
He is survived by his wife Jean; son, Barry (Nichole) Abbott of Berlin, WI; grandson, Steven Luse Abbott of Berlin, WI; his half brother, Theodore S. Abbott III (Connie) of Boynton Beach, FL, and a sister, Barbara Deming (Romine) of Brockport, NY. His parents and stepfather Theodore S. Abbott II predeased him.
As an Anglican he attended St. Johns Episcopal Church, Sparta. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Sparta, WI, on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Episcopal Church or to the Morrow Memorial Home. A private burial service will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta is assisting the family with arrangements.
