Ellis Junior Jackson, 62, of Knoxville, died Monday, March 30, 2009, in Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville.

Born Oct. 26, 1946, in Oliver Springs, he spent his childhood in Coalfield and was a 1964 graduate of Coalfield High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam from 1966-68. His career with the U.S. Department of Energy included work at K-25, X-10 and Y-12 plants, Oak Ridge. He continued to work as a consultant at Oak Ridge National Laboratory after retirement. He was a longtime member and past president of the American Association of Cost Engineers. A member of West Park Baptist Church, Knoxville, he was an accomplished singer and musician who sang with the Promise Land Quartet and played and taught guitar. He played his favorite instrument, the steel guitar, with several groups. He also enjoyed trout fishing and golf.

He was preceded in death by parents, Tommie Jackson and Ada Riggs Jackson; and brother, Burnace Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Peters Jackson of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Amanda Jackson of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and the Rev. Phillip Martin of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Wyatt Jackson and Hannah Jackson, both of Cape Coral, and Malachi Martin, Mason Martin, Maverick Martin and Mahala Martin, all of Lenoir City; brothers and sisters-in-law, J.T. and Shelby Jackson and Charles "Bit" and Brenda Jackson, all of Coalfield; sister-in-law, Betty Jackson of Coalfield; and several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, in West Park Baptist Church at 8833 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville. Funeral service will follow, with the Rev. Sam Polson and the Rev. Phillip Martin officiating. Graveside service, with full military honors, and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Clinton. Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coalfield Athletic Field House, Coalfield High School, Coalfield, TN 37719.
