On 11/24/89 at about 1:50 pm, Mandy Stavik left her home on Strand Road in rural Whatcom County to go jogging with the family dog. She was wearing green sweat pants and a light colored sweatshirt. Mandy's dog returned home without her several hours later. On 11/27/89 Mandy's body was found nearby in the Nooksack River.
UPDATE 2019: With the conclusion of one of Whatcom County's most notorious cold cases, Timothy Forrest Bass has begun serving his prison sentence after kidnapping, raping and murdering Amanda "Mandy" Stavik in 1989. Bass, 51, is currently incarcerated in the Clallam Bay Corrections Center on the Olympic Peninsula, according to the Washington State Department of Corrections.
