She graduated from Carsonville High School in 1942.
During her working career she was employed by Ford Motor Company, Michigan Bell Telephone, Haffners Department Store and was a cook at Sandusky Community Schools.
She served during World War II in the flight operations division of the United States Naval Air Station in Millington, Tennessee.
She married Kenneth A. Rhead on February 7, 1948 in Carsonville and resided most of her life in Sandusky.
She was a member of the board of directors of the Sanilac County Girls Scouts, Sandusky High School Band Boosters and served as a cub-scout leader. She was a member of the City of Sandusky Planning Commission, the Senior Citizen High Rise Commission, was Treasurer of the Sanilac County Republican Party and was Chairman of the Sanilac County Parks Commission.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (1997), her daughter, Kristy Anne Campbell (2004), and two sisters, Hazel (1920), Betty Lou Rumble (2007).
She is survived by 3 children, Kim (Margaret) Rhead of Holt, Kerry (Robert) Mason of Kendallville, IN, and Gerald (Heather) Rhead of East Lansing.
She is also survived by a son-in-law, Jerry Campbell of Kendallville, IN; 2 brothers, William Bopra of Croswell, Gene Bopra of Sandusky; 2 sisters, Marjorie (Robert) O'Connell of Carsonville, Marion (Douglas) Kenny of Deckerville; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandusky First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Colin Stover officiating.
Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sandusky.
Memorials to the Kim Rhead Leadership Scholarship and the Kevin Pearce Memorial Scholarship c/o the Sanilac County Community Foundation and the Every Dream Will Do Scholarship c/o the Nobel County (Indiana) Community Foundation.
Visitation will be held on Thursday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Sandusky and Friday 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
