Three Die As Truck Dives Into Bull Valley Gorge

Spectacular Bull Valley Gorge in Kane County, about 15 miles southeast of Cannonville, crushed out the lives of three Garfield County men last weekend.


Victims were Max Henderson, 33, Hart Johnson, 37, both of Cannonvllle, and Clark Smith, 32, of Henrleville.


They started Thursday to set up a deer-hunting camp on rangeland one of the men owned in Kane County. When they had not returned by Saturday, a search was started for them.


A party led by Kendall Dutton of Cannonville, crossing the Hull Valley Gorge bridge, at 1 p.m. Sunday, sighted the pickup truck lodged In the narrow gorge about 50 feet below the bridge.


Bodies of two of the victims were still wedged Into the truck, the third body had fallen clear and crashed to the Gorge floor almost 200 feet lower.

Triple Funeral For Bull Gorge Victim

Rhino Hart Johnson was born July 1, 1917, In Cannonvllle, a son of Nephi and Zlna Goulding Johnson, He was a graduate of Tropic High School and was an elder In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Annia May Folsom on July 30, 1947, In the St. George Temple.


Survivors include the widow; sons: Neal, Edward Clyde and Lorin Nephi; a daughter, Margaret Annia; his mother, all or Cannonville; 1 sister, Mrs. Frank Proctor, Panguitch; 3 brothers: Irvin and Mabln, Babitt, Nev., and Rulon, Provo, Burial was in the Georgetown Cemetery, Garfield County.

Joint funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Tropic Ward Chapel.
