Richard J. "Rich" Wike, 82, of Penryn, PA, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 21, 2009. Born in Kleinfeltersville, he was the son of the late George and Martha Royer Wike. Rich worked for the former Bedford Shoe and Alsam Shoe Companies in Lititz, and he was last employed at Galebach's Floor Finishing, Landisville.

He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

Rich was the husband of Lorraine Cochran Wike, and they observed their 60th wedding anniversary in June of last year.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penryn, and served the church providing maintenance for the church for many years. He was a life member of Penryn Fire Company; served as financial secretary for many years and volunteered helping with the dinners provided by the Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Other memberships included the Penn-Elm Lions Club and a life membership with the Manheim V.F.W. Post 5956. In his early years, Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and going to the beach.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Deborah A. wife of Marlin L. Haldeman of Penryn, Glenda K. wife of Alvin D. Redcay of Manheim, a son, Jeffrey D. husband of Susan L. Rutter Wike of Lancaster; six grandchildren: Keith, Scott, and Joel Haldeman, Jamie and Jason Redcay, Abby Wike; ten great grandchildren; two sisters: Georgette Haldeman of Hopeland, Tresia wife of Dale Matthew of Schaefferstown; three brothers: Clifford husband of Ethelene Wike of Kleinfeltersville, Paul husband of Edith Wike of Newmanstown, and Robert husband of Jeanette Wike of Ephrata. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosena Levengood, and a brother, Donald Wike.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1258 Newport Road, Penryn, PA on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 10:30 AM. Interment in Penryn Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing time on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Those desiring may send contributions to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 125, Penryn, PA 17564. The Buch Funeral Home, Manheim is in charge of arrangements.
