Betty L. Cowger, 83, of Lafayette, died at 11:38 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Clarian Arnett Hospital.

She was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Lafayette, to the late William and Thelma Martin Bellah.

In 1943, she married Ernest Cowger in Lafayette, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2008.

Mrs. Cowger worked in housekeeping for 17 years at Campus Inn. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with family.

Surviving are a son, William Cowger of Lafayette; two sisters, Martha McIver and Madonna Goonen, both of Rossville; three brothers, Edward L. Bellah (wife: Karen) and Jim Bellah (wife: Virginia), both of Lafayette, and Fred Bellah (wife: Margaret) of Las Vegas.

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred Cowger; 2 daughters, Patty Cook and Mary Evers; a grandchild, Joann Cook; 1 great-grandchild, 2 sisters and 7 brothers.

Visitation 1 hour prior to the 2 p.m. service Monday, March 16, 2009, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Sherry Mugg officiating. Interment at Spring Vale Cemetery.
