Sarah was a native of New Jersey, born there on May 20, 1778. She must have moved to Ohio with her parents, because she married John Earhart in Clermont County, Ohio on September 20, 1801. The marriage record lists her as "Sally" Wood. They settled in Williamsburg, in Clermont County, before 1824. They moved to Newtown, Hamilton County, Ohio, in 1826, and from Newtown to McCellands Mills in Jefferson County, Indiana, in 1837. Sarah and John were parents to at least eight children.

Sarah died on November 30, 1859, at the age of 81. She is buried in the Pisgah Cemetery, Graham Township, Jefferson County. Her headstone is leaning against a wall in the oldest part of the cemetery.
