John Earhart was a native of Pennsylvania, probably born Chester County on October 20, 1780. Or he might have been born in Morrisons Cove, Woodbury Township, Bedford County. John was the son of George & Catharina Earhart. In 1792, John moved to Ohio and settled near Fort Washington, now Cincinnati. John married Sarah Wood in Clermont County, Ohio on September 20, 1801. They settled in Williamsburg, in Clermont County, before 1824. They moved to Newtown, Hamilton County, Ohio in 1826, and from Newtown to McCellands Mills in Jefferson County, Indiana, in 1837.

John Earhart was a farmer and a carpenter by trade. He died in 1869, on February 16, at the age of 89. John is buried in the Pisgah Cemetery, Graham Township, Jefferson County. His headstone reads, "Earhart, John, Oct. 20, 1780-Feb. 15, 1869".

There is a record of John's burial in this cemetery, and a written record of his headstone, but a search of the cemetery in 2009 was unable to turn up the headstone. There were many unreadable headstones in the oldest part of the cemetery.
