Rueben, son of Arthur and Almira Jane Parks Matthews, was born June 15, 1892, in St. Clair County, and died July 12, 1982, in Breech Medical Center.

On February 4, 1917, he was married to Gladys Crismon. Early in life he professed his faith in Christ and at the time of his death he was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers and his parents.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jesse of Nebo and Dale of Springfield; two daughters, Lavern Edwards of Lebanon and Carmie Lambeth of Miramonte, Calif.; three sisters, Grace Bradford, Commerce, Okla., Bessie Scott, Eldon and Susie Cook of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
