She was a retired public elementary school teacher, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted friend.
La Verne was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Don S. Edwards and her parents.
She is survived by her three sons, Jimmie Don and his wife Donna Edwards of Mosby, Missouri, Lewis Dwayne and his wife Bonny Edwards of Independence, Missouri, Bobby Joe and his wife Eloa of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren Ronda Hornick, Jimmie Edwards II, and David Edwards and two great grandchildren Sarah Edwards and Jimmie Edwards III. Also surviving is one sister Carmie Lambeth of Stevensville, Montana, two brothers, Lyle Matthews of Strafford, Missouri, and Jesse Matthews of Springfield, Missouri.
After retirement from education, La Verne traveled to Europe, Egypt and the Holy Land. She was a contributing author to the Laclede County, Missouri Book of History.
