Eleanor Dumond, one of the early teachers in Belmond, Wright County, Iowa was born on December 7 m 1842. She moved to Jasper County, Missouri, with her mother in the 1860's. She was married there in 1867 to Jocob W. Elder. Jacob was the brother of prominent early Belmond settler, James W. Elder. In 1869 they moved to Hancock County, Iowa, where Jacob was elected auditor in 1876. They had one daughter. Eleanor died on July 26, 1891, at 48 years of age. Jacob died six years later. They are buried in the Concord Cemetery, in Hancock County.
