Funeral services for James David "J. D." Simons, age 78, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the First United Pentecostal Church, Athens, with Pastor Johnny Grissom officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery, Athens.

Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Simons passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, in Jacksonville.

He was born Nov. 25, 1930, in McMinnville, Tenn., to James Hannibel Simons and Frankie Alice Coppinger Simons.

Mr. Simons served in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of West Lake Baptist Church, Chandler, was a retired mechanic engineering technician for Kelly Springfield, Tyler, and a member of the Kelly Springfield Retirees Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Naomi Roberts; and brother, Fred Simons.

Survivors include wife, Iva Nell Simons of Jacksonville; daughter, Debra Cummins and husband, Randy of Jacksonville; sister, Dorothy Jean Hudson and husband, Ed of Walling, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Johnny Grissom and wife, Rachel of Athens and Howard Ed Grissom and wife, Delores of Hesperia, Calif.; grandchildren, Traci Cummins and Kaci Cummins, both of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
