Visitation will begin on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville and family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Iva Nell Simons, affectionately known to her friends and family as "Nell", was born on February 19, 1935, to Murl Andrew and Iva Estell (Thompson) Grissom and went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2023. Nell will be remembered as a woman of very strong faith. She loved the Lord Jesus, and this was unmistakably evident in the way she approached life and treated others. Nell was a genuine caregiver, and her selflessness was always on display. She was generous with her gifts and abilities to serve others and invested much into her church when the opportunity presented itself. Nell adored her family and all the Scripture. She was an instrument of God's righteousness and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Murl and Iva Grissom; loving husband, James (JD) Simons; 5 brothers, Dee, James, Howard, Ronnie, and Gaylen Grissom; great-granddaughter, Kinley Carter; and niece, Cheri Grissom.
Left to cherish Nell's memory are her daughter, Debra Cummins of Lufkin; dear friends, Richard Warner and Gina and John Vierra; and 2 granddaughters, Traci Cummins and husband Woody Carter, and Kaci Cummins. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Zoey, Brentlee, Wayden, and Asher Carter, and Cohen Rustin; brother, Johnny Grissom and wife Rachel; 3 sisters-in-law, Connie Grissom, Earlene Grissom, and Linda Hendricks; and numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
