Born January 6, 1905 in Murray to Gottlieb & Emma Arnold Berger. Married DeLora Bosen on Aug. 12, 1927 in Farmington, Ut. The youngest of ten children, he grew up on the family farm in Murray. He was a member of the LDS Church. Ev enjoyed bowling, camping and fishing with his wife.
Ev spent his entire life serving others and promoting causes that would benefit others. He served in organized labor for over fifty years, retiring in 1974 as the Utah State President of the AFL-CIO. In the capacity of labor leader he served on many regional and national government committees for education and manpower utilization. He was a fearless labor organizer and was respected in government circles for his fight to remove the communist influences from organized labor.
Ev also served as the president of the Utah State Fireman's Association. He was a Salt Lake County volunteer fireman for nearly forty years.
He knew many of the prominent men of business and politics in the state. Some disagreed with him, but they respected him for his forthright position and integrity. He was a personal friend of both Governor Calvin Rampton and Governor Scott Matheson.
Ev is survived by his sons, Duaine "Buck", Topanga Canyon CA; Blaine (Elaine) Salt Lake City; Mike (Sharon) North Ogden; Butch (Pat) Riverton; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by his wife, DeLora "Dee", son Dennis, grandson, Eric, great-great-grandson Jacob, and 9 brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the kind staff of the Alta Care Center, as well as many friends who have faithfully visited Ev and Dee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 22, at 11a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St. where friends may call Friday 6-8p.m. and Saturday 10-10:45 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
Ev Continued to pay his Utah State Fireman's dues until the time of his death.
