Collier Max ‘Monty' Montgomery

Collier Max "Monty" Montgomery, 90, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home with pastors Doug Goodwin and George Tellez officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Montgomery was born Feb. 26, 1911, at Inola, Okla., to Charles and Kate (Collier) Montgomery. He married Ruby Davis Aug. 26, 1938 in Mayes County, Okla. He moved his family to Sheridan in July 1938. He worked for N.A. Nelson Construction Co. until 1947 and worked for Peter Kewit and retired from Big Horn Coal Co. in 1975. Mr. Montgomery was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Big Horn Mountains and hunted and fished all his life. He played baseball as a young man and enjoyed watching baseball and football games. Mr. Montgomery attended the First Christian Church and was a proud member of the Cherokee Indian Tribe. He is survived by his son, Max Collier Montgomery, Carson City, Nev.; his daughters, Joyce Morrison, Laramie, June Mair, Maui, Hawaii, and Jane Kolinsky, Portland, Ore.; his sisters, Flora Dooley, Sara Goodnight and Mary Stamps, all of Pryor, Okla.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church or the donor's choice in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
