Dudley was born in Kentucky the son of John Montgomery and Hannah Cantrell and the grandson of Silas Montgomery and Agnes "Aggie" Sizemore. On November 26, 1906 he married Rebecca "Becky" Trusty the daughter of Harris Trusty and Mary Stephens. Their children are; Edger Montgomery, Onesia (Montgomery) Watson-Noble, Mary Ethel (Montgomery) Fletcher, Langley Montgomery, Georgia Montgomery-1916/1922, Emily (Montgomery) Dyer Stanton-Salyer, Fannie Mae (Montgomery) King-Fugate and John C. Montgomery. On April 15, 1948 Dudley married second wife Lula Arnett.
