The residents of the valley were shocked last Saturday night when it became known that Kenneth Clinger had wrecked his auto and was pinned underneath the car while the car burned. Clinger was traveling at a high rate of speed coming down the highway from Grover and when he got to a point in front of the Hokanson ranch a tire blew out, and the car swerved and went off the grade. It struck an approach to the highway and jumped 40 feet and lit upside down, pinning Clinger under. The car immediately caught fire.
Henry Nelson heard the crash and came as fast as he could to render assistance, as also did Mr. Hokanson, but they were unable to lift the car until they got some poles to lift with. In the meantime the flames were burning Clinger's lower legs all the time. It was perhaps five minutes or more before the car was lifted and Clinger released. He was immediately rushed to Afton where first aid measures were applied and the burned parts bandaged. Clinger was then taken to Soda Springs to the hospital, where it was thought for a time that he had a chance for recovery. However, he was burned worse than it was thought and he passed away early Wednesday morning, His legs were literally burned to a crisp.
His body is now in the morgue at Soda Springs where it will remain until early Saturday morning. A hearse will then transport the body to Etna where the remains may be viewed from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
Funeral services will be held in Etna at 2:00 p.m. and he will be buried in the Etna cemetery.
