Caleora Skinner, 94, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at home in Gardnerville, NV, after being bedfast for six months following a stroke.
Cleora was born July 21, 1906 to Walter Alexander and Gladys Amber Good Stewart at Parsons, KS. She was the second of six children. She was reared in Kansas and Missouri. Her mother died when she was only nine years of age leaving her to help care for her brothers and sister. Cleora moved to Salt Lake City to attend college and later came to Star Valley to teach school at Etna.
On May 2, 1929 she was married in Sedalia MO to Kenneth Clinger, a widower with three children. They lived on a ranch in Etna. To this union were born two daughters. The first was stillborn, Ken died Aug 26, 1931 from burns sustained in a car wreck. The second daughter was born one month later.
Cleora was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 3, 1932. She went back to teaching school in Bedford. She met Cecil Skinner there and they were married Mar 9, 1935. To them were born seven children. They were later divorced.
Along with rearing her family, Cleora was a nurse at the Star Valley Hospital for about 17 years. She moved to Blythe CA in June 1960, where she continued nursing. The doctors really depended on her for a lot of medical help. Later she moved to Las Vegas and continued with her nursing career. She retired for about three years, then went back to nursing. She didn't retire again until she was around 80 years old. she then moved to Gardnerville, NV to live with her youngest daughter Sammye. She did volunteer work at a medical center at Carson City for some time.
Survivors include her children; Joy Clark Smoot; Leo Skinner, Springfield, OR; Amber Hull, Sandpoint ID; Hazel Hillstead, Enoch, UT; Don Skinner Evanston; Judith Ebel and Thad Skinner, Las Vegas, Sammye Skinner, Gardnerville NV and step children Marion Allred, Osmond and Darwin Clinger, Idaho Falls, 34 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Cleora was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, four brothers, one sister, one daughter, one step-son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
