Joy was born September 22, 1931 to Kenneth Vernile and Audrey Cleora Stewart Clinger in Etna, Wyoming. Her father died one month before she was born due to injuries from an automobile accident. She was welcomed home by one older sister and two older brothers. Her mother married Cecil Skinner three and one half years later. Three brothers and four sisters were added to this union. Joy spent her growing up years in Etna, Bedford, and Afton.
She met the love of her life, Delbert Schwab Clark and after six months of dating, they were married on June 10, 1947. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Joy spent her life on the Clark ranch in Smoot where she and Delbert raised four boys and two girls.
She spent much of her life helping out with the farming and also held various jobs outside the home. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. She also enjoyed being a 4-H leader and if she had any spare time she would be reading a good book.
Joy is survived by five children, Dalene Wolfley, Freedom; Ken (Carol), Smoot; Ed (Kathy), Osmond; Janell Hale, Hyde Park, UT; Todd (Norma), Smoot; and twenty two grand children, fifty two great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by seven younger siblings; Leo (Cheryl) Skinner, Amber Hull, Hazel (George) Hillstead, Dan (Nona) Skinner, Judith Ebel, Thad (Nancy) Skinner and Sammye Lea Skinner.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband of sixty eight years, Delbert; son, Jeffrey James; grandson, Ryan James Wolfley; sons-in-law, Tex Wolfley and Tom Hale. She was also preceded by her parents and three older siblings, Marion Allred; Darwin Clinger, and Donnie Clinger.
