The son of John & Fannie (Pearsol) Conn, in 1860 he was a printer's apprentice living with and/or working for saddler Andrew Eickoltz in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.


A Civil War veteran, he served three terms of service:

  1. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-one in Harrisburg April 20, 1861, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. F, 1st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 27, 1861.
  2. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-one in Lancaster August 9, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 11 as a sergeant with Co. B, 122nd Pennsylvania Infantry, promoted to 1st sergeant August 28, and honorably discharged with his company May 15, 1863.
  3. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-four in Lancaster July 8, 1864, mustered into federal service at Philadelphia July 15 as 2nd lieutenant of Co. C, 197th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company November 11, 1864.


He married Sarah E. Hutton and fathered William S. (b. 01/29/73), Harry O. (b. 07/12/75), John Pearsol (b. 01/11/80), and Emma F. (b. 05/20/89 - married Andrew M. Wagner). Cause of his death is listed as "cancer of the liver . . . [and] locomotor ataxia" with "absorption of septic material" a contributing factor.
